Purpose-built with the aim of providing superb care, Birds Hill is the pride of its highly qualified and experienced owner-managers. This family run, independent nursing home was carefully created with the needs of the individual in mind.

Situated in the heart of Poole with ample parking and easy access by road and public transport, we are located a few doors from Poole General Hospital, well within walking distance of the town centre, Poole Park and all main amenities.

Birds Hill is tastefully decorated with each resident's room enjoying a unique and homely feel. Due to our unrivalled location, all of our lounges and many of our rooms boast some of the best views of Poole Harbour and the surrounding areas.

The cosy feeling of the home is heightened by its subdivision into three smaller, more homely and personal units, each concentrating on the needs of a particular category of client. Merlin and Starling Units are devoted to the needs of those clients requiring general care in a pleasant and therapeutic environment. Nightingale Unit, specially equipped and staffed to cater for the elderly frail with an element of confusion, is registered as an E.M.I. (Elderly Mentally Infirm) Unit, dealing specifically with Alzheimer's, Dementia and other memory affecting conditions.

The bright, cheerful accommodation is utterly unlike the typical gloomy Victorian nursing home. It has been designed to provide an ideal environment for modern care. Besides being warm, comfortable and beautifully decorated, there are countless thoughtful features. The corridors, for example, are a full 1.5m wide for easy wheelchair access. The home benefits from easy to use handles, hoists, grabrails and many other aids.

Practicality goes hand in hand with more than a touch of luxury. All rooms are unusually spacious, fully furnished and under-floor heated with individual temperature control. Each room features a nurse call system, colour television, and of course full fire precautions and telephone points. The majority of rooms have their own private bathroom. Most rooms also have the priceless attraction of a panoramic view spanning Poole Harbour to the nature reserve of Brownsea Island.

Birds Hill was established to provide the highest standards of long/short term and respite care for clients with all disabilities, both Private and Local Authority funded. The finest modern facilities and relaxed family atmosphere are complemented by specially selected professional nursing staff to provide for the physical, social and psychological needs of each individual client.

We offer a wide range of therapies - there is also a full social programme and many facilities including visiting Chiropodists, Hairdressers, Dentists and Opticians. We maintain a varied library which is regularly changed on a monthly basis. There are lounges and dining rooms on every floor as well as patios and balconies. All laundry is done on the premises with the exception of dry cleaning. We pride ourselves on our cuisine and our ability to cater for specialist diets with meals which are appetising and enjoyable.
